11:00 am - 1:00 pmMEB, Chancellor’s Dinning Hall on the 3rd floor

The Great American Smokeout, sponsored by the American Cancer Society, has encouraged people for nearly 50 years to take a first step toward a tobacco-free life. That step can be quitting for a single day, making a plan to quit, or reaching out for support. Most people who quit successfully have tried more than once and do best with support.

On Tuesday, November 17, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00pm the LSUHSC Wellness Committee, in collaboration with the Campus Assistance Program, the School of Dentistry, and the School of Public Health will host a Great American Smokeout Day at the Chancellor’s Dinning Hall in the MEB on the 3rd floor. Students, residents, faculty, and staff are welcome.

As part of the event, the School of Dentistry will offer [free] oral cancer screenings. The screening is quick and painless. Tobacco use, including smoking, vaping, and smokeless tobacco, is a leading risk factor for oral cancer, and early detection makes a real difference. Please book your oral screening appointment online. Walk-ins are welcome.

  • Receive an oral cancer screening from the School of Dentistry
  • Learn about tobacco and nicotine cessation resources available to our campus community
  • Pick up information on free quit services, including the national quitline at 1-800-QUIT-NOW
